Deepak G Uttamchandani is Emeritus Professor at the University of Strathclyde, UK. From 2003-2024 he headed Strathclyde's multi-disciplinary Centre for Microsystems and Photonics focusing on MEMS, photonics, laser systems, optical microscopy, optical-fiber-sensors, optofluidics. He has over 320 publications, including 4 edited books. Professor Uttamchandani was founding Editor and first Editor-in-Chief of IET Micro & Nano Letters. He has won 4 best journal/conference paper awards, and has been active in many international research projects and collaborations. Professor Uttamchandani received the 2024 IEEE Joseph F Keithley Award in Instrumentation and Measurement, while his many other awards include Technical Achievement Award from IEEE Sensors Council; Thales Scottish Technology Prize for Laser Technology and Applications; First Prize at Capteurs (Sensors) 1989 Paris conference for innovative research on silicon micro-mechanical resonator sensors – this was one of the earliest international prizes awarded for MEMS sensors. He is IEEE Life Fellow, Fellow of Royal Society of Edinburgh, Fellow Institute of Physics (IoP), Fellow Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). He is also Member of IEEE-Eta Kappu Nu (HKN) Honor Society.
